Welcome to my blog

On this blog I intent to keep track of my activities in amateur astronomy. It might be useful to others but also for myself to keep a record of my observations and organize useful information and data.

I am currently in the process of reviving my equipment. Most of it dates back to late 1980 and was mostly used visual. I am planning to upgrade my Vixen Super Polaris DX mount with a Skywatcher EQ5 Synscan V3 upgrade kit. Control it with EQMOD and see how much improvement VS-PEC will bring. In the city you can't use long exposures so perhaps VS-PEC is all I need. With todays cooled CMOS camera's a short exposure is enough to capture faint stars. Much fainter than visually possible. I wonder how faint I can get on an average night.

On the mount I used a Celestron C8 that is about the same age so I might take that apart too. I never done these things before so the experiences that people share on the Internet is very useful. It made me decide to share my experiences too. If I am re-entering the hobby why not start a blog at the same time. So for the moment I am trying to give this blog a little body and content. If I have my mount up and running with EQMOD I will choose a small ZWO camera, probably an ASI120MM mini, and explore the possibilities from my site.
